Rock slide scars appear lighter in color than the surrounding rock, because the new rock being exposed after the slide has not been exposed to the forces of weathering. The far right scar marks the rock slide of the Old Man. The larger, bright slide scar near the center of the photo occured a couple of years earlier.

Remnant of the forehead block of the Old Man as it came to rest on the tallus slope of Cannon Mountain. Evidence that this was the forehead block is contained in the metal bars used in an attempt to stabilize the rock formation.
